In this assessment task, you will set out personal and professional goals in a professional development (PD) plan. Then you will obtain third-party verification of participation in networking or professional development to achieve goals set out in your PD plan. Finally, you will submit a reflection on your personal development.
Procedure
- Reflect on your leadership skills in the context of the work you completed in Assessment Tasks 1–3. This will be a self-assessment exercise, so questions you should ask yourself include the following.
- What did I do well?
- What areas need improvement?
- Did I engage all stakeholders?
- Did I display ethical conduct? If so, how/how not?
- How was my leadership style appropriate for the tasks?
- Once you have established areas for improvement, determine how this will occur by developing a professional development plan. Questions to ask yourself will include the following.
- What are my objectives?
- What are the priorities for achieving these?
- What activities do I need to undertake to achieve my objectives?
- What resources do I need?
- What are my timelines?
- Identify three professional development activities in your PD plan (for example, training, networking or professional development) designed to achieve goals and overcome weaknesses set out in your PD plan. Ensure you are able to perform the activities within the allotted assessment time.
Note: Ensure you gather third-party verification of participation and performance in at least three activities, including at least two activities involving networking. Use reports from three different third parties.
Acceptable third parties include: your managers, superiors, trainers and assessors (for additional training undertaken), industry peers (for networking undertaken).
- Complete a written reflection detailing:
- answers to reflection questions in step 1 above
- how you will continue to develop your skills and knowledge through professional development and networking.

Likelihood of the risk | Impact of the risk |
The chemical spillage occurs as result of the unsaleable or the wastage due to poor maintenance of inventory and monitoring of the sales.
This can be ranked as medium risk with respect to Australian hardware risk management action plan. |
Chemical spillage for example oil can make the customers and employees fall and get injured hence incurring the company extra expenses and wastage of time.
Therefore, ranked as high risk in the Australian management action plan. |
Risk mitigation
Briefly describe any action that should be taken to prevent the risk from occurring.
The first action which should be taken to prevent oil from spilling in a working place like Australian hardware is to make use of secondary containment.
This involves use of other containers to seal the oil carrying container when transporting from one location to another.
The secondary containment can also be placed on the spill trays to hold any oil that spill accidentally thus preventing it from spilling on the floor.
The containment should be properly disposed. This is because these materials are compatible with the spilled oil.
Contingency action
Briefly describe any action that should be taken, should the risk occur, to minimize its impact.
The first step to take when dangerous chemicals like oil spills on the ground is ensuring one gets there.
Immediately ensure all the other members of the staff are aware about the hazard. This can be done through printed notices on the wall so as to be seen by the new visitors especially the customers.
The next step is to ensure the oil spill does not become worse. In case there is any way to minimize the chances of becoming more worse, the action can be taken.
Confirm the type of the oil spill the use the absorbent material to stop the oil from spreading to other areas. The material should be spread around the perimeters of the oil spill and after spreading the material they should be completely locked from access.
Lastly collect and dispose the material that was used in containing the spill.
Ensure all the equipment like the dustpans that ware used in cleaning up are properly disposed.
Supporting the documentation
Details of any supporting documentation used to substantiate this risk.
The document used in substantiating the chemical spill risk in this case is chemical spill management guidelines by the Wollongong University of Australia.
The document has provided clear outlined techniques on the management of the laboratory and other chemical spills in order to minimize its effect on the individual health.
The guidelines in this document can be applied to other working places especially those transport and store the chemicals.
